Each semester she will teach two sessions of introductory math, such as precalculus, and another math course. She will also participate in a week long teacher training workshop for new graduate students in mid-August. In addition, as part of the NCSU-High School Mathematics Teacher Co op program, Poe will be given an opportunity to take one or two courses per semester, to participate in a deparuncntal teaching seminar and gain ex perience implementing technology in the classroom. Konji Harrison of Boiling Spring Lakes received a $1,000 scholarship recently from the Bald Head Island Education Assistance Program. Harrison, a rising junior at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, has worked at Bald Head Island as a seasonal employee for the past four summers. Kent Mitchell, president of Bald Head Is land Management, Inc., presented the check to Harrison in a brief ceremony July 2. A 1990 graduate of South Bruns wick High School, Harrison was a key player for the Cougars basket ball team and in his senior year was named most valuable player. Having maintained a grade point average of 2.7 during his freshman and sophomore years at UNC-C, he plans to major in business law. "We like to encourage our em ployees to continue their education and training whenever possible and are pleased to be able to assist them in their efforts," Mitchell com mented after presenting the check. Administered through the person nel department, the Education As sistance Program is designed to pro vide financial aid to eligible em ployees who voluntarily pursue ap proved academic study at accredited educational institutions, according to Sandra Darby, Bald Head Island’s vice-president of administration in personnel. To be eligible for the program, employees must have been seasonal workers for a minimum of two sea sons or full-time employees for a minimum of 12 months. In addition, they must be enrolled in a two- or four-year degree program. Bald Head Island Management also encourages continuing educa tion for its full-time employees through a tuition reimbursement plan, Darby noted. UNCG Dean’s List Bernard Flythe of Southport and Christy Johnson of Bolivia were named to the Dean’s List during the second semester at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Undergraduate students carrying six or more semester hours of letter graded coursework with a grade point average of 3.5 or belter with no grade below C are eligible for the Dean’s List Students inducted Joseph Thomas Smith of Supply and Karen Evelena Jones of Win nabow have been inducted into the East Carolina University chapter of Phi Eta Sigma.
